Your hosts will prepare and serve a hardy daily breakfast in the dining palapa adjacent to the internet lounge/game room. Mari and Louis enjoy preparing other meals, snacks, and drinks with advance notice at affordable prices. A private romantic 5-course dinner served by candlelight is always a favorite! There is also a gas grill available in the dining palapa for guests' use.

Dining at La Selva Mariposa is much more than Cheerios and instant coffee. Cheerful bird songs and colorful Mexican decor greet you as you enter the open air dining room each morning and wake up your senses as you meet and share stories with other travelers around the table.

We pride ourselves on the freshness, variety 
and uniqueness of our breakfasts. 


Begin your day with an assortment of tropical fruits, many grown on the property: mango, papaya, banana, tangerines, melons, pitaya, strawberries and guanabana. Top your yogurt and special granola mix with fresh fruit or savor it au natural. Don't miss Mari's Magical Muffins to go with your coffee, tea and fruit juice. We prepare a hot entree each morning using local eggs and organic herbs and produce from our kitchen garden. Some of our creative specialties are: Stuffed French Toast, Pyramids de La Selva Mariposa, Mediterranean Omelet, Huevos Rancheros, Cinnamon-apple Brie Burritos and Lou´s' Multi-grain Pancakes with berries and nuts. We are sensitive to special dietary needs of our guests and try to accommodate them. We love to experiment with new recipes and welcome your suggestions.  Our generous portions will sustain you all morning as you explore the sights of the area.

We encourage you to support our local restaurants for lunch and dinner. There are a few small restaurants in our village of Macario Gomez that offer inexpensive meals from tacos to full Mexican fare. 

Tulum, only a fifteen-minute drive from La Selva Mariposa, is filled with restaurants offering a variety of international dishes as well as Mexican cuisine. We offer suggestions of our favorites in LSM's personal travel guides found in your room. 

Arrangements can be made for us to prepare a five-course, candlelight dinner served beside the Chichen Itza fountain.  

One of our most popular menus includes: a bottle of wine, an appetizer of avocado stuffed with a spicy crab dip, salad made with a dozen greens from our garden, goat cheese, toasted pecans and poached pears topped with a vinaigrette dressing and served with hot bread and butter. 

The main entree is a local white fish prepared with a delicate tropical salsa, garlic mashed potatoes and cinnamon sweet potatoes and a side of roasted vegetables au-gratin. The final course consists of a homemade key-lime pie.
